Balkrishna Industries Signs Strategic Partnership with Pirelli for Premium Car Tyres in India
Published on October 22, 2026|Author: Team Choice

Balkrishna Industries Limited (BKT) has signed an agreement with Pirelli to manufacture Pirelli-branded premium passenger car tyres in India. The partnership marks BKT's planned entry into the premium passenger car tyre segment.

Under the first phase, BKT will manufacture up to 800,000 Pirelli-branded tyres by 2030. Production will take place at one of BKT's newly constructed facilities, following Pirelli's specific technology and quality requirements.

The agreement also provides an opportunity for a second phase involving a proposed 50-50 joint venture between the two companies. The venture could include a new manufacturing plant dedicated to high-value passenger car tyres under both the Pirelli and BKT brands, serving customers in India and international markets.

Balkrishna Industries' Strategic Rationale

The partnership is expected to support BKT's expansion into the premium passenger car tyre segment, broadening its business beyond its existing areas of focus.

Pirelli will contribute its expertise in premium tyre technology, while BKT will bring its manufacturing capabilities, industrial infrastructure and understanding of the Indian market.

The companies aim to capitalise on demand for premium passenger car tyres in India. According to the press release, the Indian car tyre market is expected to grow significantly, with the premium segment presenting an opportunity for both companies.

The proposed joint venture could further expand their manufacturing presence and support their long-term business plans. The final structure and implementation of the second phase remain subject to further developments.
