Definition
Basing is a period when a stock’s price moves within a narrow range after a rise or fall. During this time, the price stays stable as buyers and sellers reach a balance. It is often seen as a preparation phase before the next big move.
Example
A stock falls from Rs 500 to Rs 400 and then stays between Rs 390 and Rs 410 for a few weeks. This stable phase is called basing. After this, the stock may either move up or continue to fall.
Caution
Basing does not guarantee that the price will go up. The stock can break out in either direction. Investors should wait for confirmation and use other indicators before making decisions.
