Balu Forge Receives First Purchase Order for 155mm ERFB Shells

Balu Forge Industries Limited announced that it has successfully commercialised 155mm ERFB BB and ERFB BT shells after receiving its first purchase order from an Indian ammunition player.

The order covers both Base Bleed (BB) and Boat Tail (BT) variants of 155mm Extended Range Full Bore shells. The pilot supply will consist of 10,000 units, after which monthly supplies will begin in quantities mutually agreed between the parties.

Balu Forge Defence Contract and Strategic Importance

The contract marks an important step in Balu Forge's expansion in the defence sector and its efforts to commercialise advanced ammunition variants. The company said the successful execution of the ERFB BB shell demonstrates its forging and machining capabilities required to manufacture components capable of withstanding the pressures associated with modern extended-range ammunition.

The development also supports the indigenisation of critical defence technologies and strengthens Balu Forge's position in the large-caliber ammunition supply chain.

Balu Forge Expands Large-Caliber Ammunition Capabilities

Balu Forge is expanding its manufacturing capabilities to produce sophisticated long-range munitions, including 155mm ERFB BB and BT variants. The company is also expanding into multi-alloy forgings and its energetics division as part of its strategy to move towards fully integrated, high-performance defence solutions.

The company highlighted that both BB and BT variants of 155mm ERFB shells are used by the Indian armed forces, including with platforms such as the 45-calibre Dhanush and 52-calibre ATAGS. Balu Forge also sees strong global potential for these ammunition variants, supported by its recently secured NATO certification and compatibility with other international platforms.
