Darshak Limited ("the Company") was incorporated in 1972with the Registrar of Companies Karnataka State atBangalore. It was promoted by Alembic Chemical Works CoLtd. The Company has two units - one at Vadodara and theother at Bangalore the registered and Head office of theCompany being at Bangalore. The Company was workingprimarily as a commission agent for the sales of variousproducts of Alembic Chemicals and Alembic Glass viz.Pharmaceuticals Glassware Synthetic Fibre Yarn Blanketsetc. The Company from its inception has been marketing Alembic''sproducts such as antibiotics cough and cold remediestonics food products etc. It has been working as acommission agent from Bangalore Division. Only during anintermittent period of about four years from 1987 that itwas working as principal purchasing and selling allproducts of Alembic in its own name. This was done mainlyfor better financial management and control of theCompany''s activities. After about 4 years of such working because of changesthat took place in selling and marketing arrangement ofAlembic there arose the necessity to revert to thearrangement of Darshak as a commission agent. Since thenthe Company has been working as a commission agent at theBangalore division. Because of growth in sales of Alembicproducts the income of the Company is also on theincrease. To supplement the Company''s operations and profitabilitythe Company undertook a new activity of packaging anddecorating glassware products in 1985 at Vadodara. Theactivity envisaged purchasing glassware items by theCompany in its own name decorating the products asrequired by the market and selling both the decorated andnon decorated products after packing the same in its ownname. The activity has been phased out and discontinuedduring 1993-94. However the Company continues to provide marketing supportfor glassware items in its own name. This division is alsotrading in various other items.The Company has 5 divisional offices/depots mainly inSouthern India at all important places of pharmaceuticalbusiness namely Bangalore Hyderabad Cochin VijaywadaMadras and Vadodara in Gujarat.The Company now proposes to undertake diversification bysetting up a manufacturing unit for producing bulk drugs inquinolone and antiulcerants group. The plant is a versatileone and the Company is primarily going to manufactureCiprofloxacin Enrofloxacin and Omeprazole the installedcapacities being 18 mta 1.32 mta and 2.5 mta respectively.
