The Company virtually promoted by Late Shri D.N.Agrawal hissons and three others having nominal shareholding wasincorporated on 15the December 1971 and registered with TheRegistrar of Companies Uttar Pradesh at Kanpur and obtainedCertificate of Commencement of Business on 3rd February 1972.It set up its first sheet glass plant in 1976 at IradatganjAllahabad with a capacity of 5 million square metres (msm) p.a.(on 2mm basis). In 1982 it set up its second sheet glass plantwith a capacity of 3 msm p.a. (on 2mm basis). In 1985 thecompany set up its first figured and wired glass plant with acapacity of 1.6 msm (on 3mm basis). In 1989 the company set upthe country''s first plant for manufacture of tinted sheet glasswith a capacity of 1.6 msm (on 2mm basis). All the above plantsare located at Allahabad. The company pioneered the domesticmanufacture of tinted sheet glass. The average capacityutilization of these plants has been above 100% in all the 5years for which the financial highlights have been givenelsewhere in this prospectus. The Company is one of the largestmanufacturers of flat glass with a 20% share in flat glassproduction in 1992-93. The Company has been a regular exporterof flat glass and has been the winner of the capexcil Award forexcellence in exports of glass for 4 consecutive years from 1988to 1991. In 1992 the company set up a plant at Meerut formanufacture of netural glass tubes and wares with a capacity of4600 tpa. In 1993 the company set up its second plant formanufacture of figured and wired glass with a capacity of 2.3 msm(on 3mm basis) at Rajahmundry Andhra Pradesh.PRESENT BUSINESS OF THE COMPANYThe Company is presently engaged in the manufacture of a widerange of flat glass including sheet glass and figured and wiredglass which are used inter alia in automobile and constructionindustries. Besides the company also manufactures neutralglass tubes which find applications in laboratory wares.
