The Company was incorporated in 1964 as a subsidiary ofPermutit Company Ltd. of the U.K. with a foreign equityholding of 60%. The foreign holding was reduced in stagesover a period of time and since 1985 the paid-up sharecapital is mainly held by resident Indians.In 1965 the Company commenced operations at its plant atAmbarnath. It started manufacturing for the first time inIndia ion exchange resins used mainly for treatment ofwater with technology from its holding company. since1978 the Company has also been supplying reverse osmosisinstallations for water treatment as a supplement to ionexchange systems. In 1982 the company diversified intothe field of chemical treatment of water by entering into acollaboration with W.R. Grace & Co. Dearborn Division U S A. The Company later entered into another collaborationwith them for the manufacture of fireside chemicals. IonExchange India was awarded the Silver Medal under the CleanSeas ''93 International Award instituted by the Governmentof Malta.
