The name of the company was changed to SterlingSecurities & Finance Limited on 22nd April 1993 and subsequentlyto Sterling Guaranty & Finance Limited effective from December1993. Thesecurities & Exchange Board of India has registered the Companyas a Category I Merchant Bankers.PRESENT BUSINESS OF THE COMPANYSterling Guaranty & Finance Limited is a well diversifiedfinancial services company. LEASE AND HIRE PURCHASE FUNDINGThe current Portfolio of the Company of Rs.3.50 crores is welldiversified. The company strategy has been to restrict fundingto 20% in a particular industry and in each case not exceedingthe exposure of more than 10% of the fixed assets of theborrower. Average Recovery percentage against current dues hasbeen satisfactory at 96% during the past three years.The level of Non-Performing Assets was also quite satisfactoryat 5.54% as on 31/12/93.2. MOBILE & OFFICE AUTOMATION FINANCEThe company has identified finance cum marketing of mobilevehicles like cars trucks office automation products likecomputers printers copiers EPABX etc. They provide betterreturns at lower credit risk. For the last three years thecompany has been actively financing these market segmentsthrough Sterling Investment Centers.3. MERCHANT BANKINGThe company is registered by the Securities & Exchange Board ofIndia as a Category I Merchant Banker. Till date the Companyhas been associated with 27 rights/public issues of aggregatingvalue of Rs.203 crores from the capital market as aCo-manager. The company has under written 125 issues amountingto more than Rs.30 crores. The company has provided MerchantBanking Advisory services to a number of reputed companies. SECURITIES BROOKING The securities brooking activities are being carried on through thesubsidiary Sterling Finance Services Limited (SFSL) which is amember of National Stock Exchange both for the Wholesale Debtmarket and the Capital Market. The company also has access toBombay Stock Exchange through the affiliated Century oldbroking house of M/s. Jamnadas Morarjee & Co. With the expectedcommencement of VSAT link by NSE SICs at Ahmedabad Baroda andothers will have direct real time access to securities brokingthrough SFSL.5. INVESTMENTS The company follows a cautious and prudent policy in itsinvestment decision. It has a strong research cell and a widedata-base to identify investible scrips. The company has beenstrategically investing in portfolio investment both in primaryand secondary market. The book value of trading portfolio as at30th June 1994 is Rs.90 lakhs. The Directors'' Committee hasbeen delegated the powers of decision making with respect toinvestments by the Board. The investment decision is taken onthe basis of research and trading input received and collectedinternally as well as externally from Brokers. Afterdetermination of the Investment Price range and the exposure inthe industry and the Company the orders are executed by theVice President - Investments through brokers.6. INVESTMENT ADVISORY SERVICESThe company advises clients on management of funds for investingin shares and other securities. It also provides a researchbase for investing in primary market new issues PSU auctionsdebt instruments and government securities like zero couponbonds. The company''s directors and professional manpowerprovides value added investment advice to its clients. Theclients include corporates banks high networth individualsand professionals. This activity is at present being done on anhonorary basis to expand its clientele.
